“A Midsummer Night’s Dream”

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” live and straight to your living room

What would a film be like without music?
Just as incomplete as a theatre play without music might have seemed in the 19th century.

That is what inspired Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in 1842-43 to compose a wonderfully varied and nuanced piece to accompany a performance of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. And this “soundtrack” has been one of Mendelssohn’s most popular works ever since. His themes perfectly capture the changing atmosphere and moods of the “enchanted” plot – one such tune being the hugely popular wedding march.
